What is Franklin about?

Franklin College is a thriving, successful sixth form college serving North East Lincolnshire and the surrounding rural and coastal area, with around 1,600 full-time 16-18 and 700 part-time adult students. We are an inclusive college with an excellent local reputation, and a firm belief in the value of effective partnerships that support student progress and success. The College has a strong focus on teaching, learning and assessment and is a vibrant and exciting place to work and study. Franklin offers a very broad range of A Levels and Level 3 BTEC qualifications and each student will have an individual study programme encompassing their subjects, tutorial, enrichment and support. We also offer Level 2 for those young people who have not yet achieved 5 A*-C including English Language.

At Franklin, staff and students work together to create a mature learning environment that is supportive, exciting and challenging. We expect all of our students to work purposefully during their time at College, but we also expect them to enjoy themselves. In addition to academic and vocational courses, you can also include in your study programme some of the wide variety of enrichment opportunities that we offer. These include our successful Career Academies as well as sport, art and culture, volunteering and our Honours Programme. We take great pride in the reputation we have established as specialists in sixth form education and our aim is to enable every student to achieve more than they thought possible.

You’ll find that Franklin College is extremely well-resourced to meet the needs of our students. Our subjects are taught in areas specifically designed to meet the requirements of post-16 study, and we’ve invested over £6 million in our buildings and facilities in recent years.

Our success and popularity are built upon our commitment to providing our students with the best possible learning environment, and the highest possible standards of support and guidance. When you apply to join Franklin College, you will find that we devote a great deal of time and expertise to helping you match your needs and aspirations to the wide range of courses we offer. Every year, about 90% of Franklin College students who apply for higher education gain a place at their first choice university. Our extensive links with local and national employers have resulted in students being very successful when looking for employment, higher and degree apprenticeships, and further training. The maturity, education and skills that our students acquire during their time at Franklin College gives them the edge to achieve a successful future.

At Franklin College we are proud of our students and their achievements (both academically and personally). We aim for a culture of respect and a mature, inclusive, and friendly environment.

Franklin has a long tradition of student’s achieving excellent results and leaving college prepared to take their next step towards their desired future. Students at the College move successfully onto prestigious universities, apprenticeships and work. Several college alumni have come back to work at Franklin either as tutors or support staff with many more supporting students through our career academy programme, working lunches and careers events.

Franklin recognises its place within the community and works with local and national companies, clubs, societies and charities to provide opportunities for our students. At Franklin College we understand that a great college experience is not just about academic studies but all aspects of the time spent with us. As a result we place considerable value on our broad and engaging enrichment activities. Enrichment activities at Franklin are not only great fun but our students build confidence and skills valued by both employers and universities ensuring Franklin students access to great opportunities. Many of the enrichment groups compete both locally and nationally. This year the Maths Challenge Team reached the national final in London and Franklin’s debating team has competed in two regional competitions and several members have taken part in a Model UN Conference in Birmingham. Franklin students take part in a variety of sporting activities and individual students also represent the College in their own specialism including golf, athletics and horse riding. Franklin started a mountaineering club which saw the first trip to the Peak District for training with the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.

Franklin is the only college in the area to be part of the Career Ready programme offering five career academies (Business, Law, Health, Logistics and Science & Engineering). Students are assigned a mentor who they meet on a 1-1 basis, complete an internship, access visits, both locally and nationally to experience real life work environments and have guest speakers to talk about their industry.

Franklin is proud to be a college which supports Equality, Diversity and Inclusion among students and staff in order to achieve their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment. The college has attained Investors in Diversity.

Franklin College’s local education context is complex and diverse. All secondary schools are now self-governing Academies (both 11-16 and 11-18) and there is a large general FE college with a growing HE provision. A further aspect of diversity lies in the proximity of selective grammar schools and other secondary provision in the neighbouring county of Lincolnshire.

Franklin is a member of the national organisation SFCA (Sixth Form Colleges Association) and the AoC (Association of Colleges). Regionally the College works with Norvic (Northern Sixth Form Colleges Federation) for the purposes of development and mutual support. The College has particularly close relationships with the Universities of Hull and Lincoln and is an Associate college of both.

North East Lincolnshire is a wonderful place to work & live with affordable desirable housing and many local amenities & attractions. Find out more at
