What is Franklin Professionals?

We work closely with local employers, universities, apprenticeship providers, and the Greater Lincolnshire LEP to ensure that we meet the area's skills needs and local priorities to support their future pipeline. 

We have a comprehensive range of fantastic programmes as part of our Centre for Professional Development (CfPD) which offer fantastic opportunities for all interests to develop your skills as a student with us for a future after Franklin. 

Providing Employability Support & Experiences

Students are introduced to the CfPD and everything it has to offer at the start of their Franklin journey.

The CfPD forms a key element of our students’ Study Programme, combining employability support and experiences with courses and their Aspire Programme. These elements are key to our students’ future planning. 

The range of programmes on offer is extensive, enabling us to support different interests; providing information and fantastic opportunities to help our students to make the best possible informed choices for their chosen futures.   

Our strategic partnerships with local and regional employers allow us to plan and deliver programmes based on the local skills need so that our students progress positively after Franklin.

Career Academy Programme

We have an extensive range of opportunities under the Franklin Professionals programme that all students are encouraged to participate in. This includes our National Award-winning Career Academy programme, which focuses on key sectors of skills needed across the Humber including health & social care, STEM, logistics, business, and law.

High Flyers Programme

The High Flyers programme is designed to stretch and challenge our most academically-able students so they are able to progress successfully onto the most prestigious universities or higher degree apprenticeships. The wide range of opportunities open to students is tailored to individual needs and progression plans in order to nurture and shape ambitions.

Teaching Academy

The Teaching Academy is a year-long programme working in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU). As part of the programme, you will undertake ten placements at a local school to help you gain hands-on experience in a teaching environment. Completion of the programme guarantees you an interview at BGU, should you apply for a teaching route with the university. BGU also holds a graduation ceremony to celebrate your achievements. 

Aspiring Future Medics White Back

Aspiring Medics

The Aspiring Future Medics programme is intended for students wanting to become a doctor, vet, or dentist. Students can join the programme where they will attend a variety of dedicated sessions including talks from healthcare professionals and university admission teams to support you with your application to some of the most competitive degrees.

Mental Health Academy

Mental Health Academy

Running in partnership with Navigo and The University of Hull, this exciting programme will enable you to understand the role of a mental health specialist, and the core skills and values needed to build effective relationships.

Social Work Academy

Social Work Academy

Students interested in social work can take part in this exciting five-week programme where they will find out what skills, knowledge and behaviours are needed to become a social worker. Students will take part in workshops delivered by social work practitioners focused on social work theory, how to make assessments and decisions, signs of safety and trauma. Delivered in partnership with NELC, Focus, and Hull University, the programme will culminate in two masterclasses at the University of Hull, where students will be introduced to studying social work at degree level.

The Franklin Leadership Academy works in partnership with the local school sports partnership and Active Humber. Students are involved in delivering sports activities undertaking a variety of different roles and responsibilities allowing students to enhance their employability skills and is a fundamental tool in aiding students' progression.

Each year we have a number of talented athletes who want to continue with their education whilst developing their sporting talents. These students can join our Talented Athlete Support Scheme where they will have a dedicated member of staff available to support with their education and sporting commitments.

Allied Health Professionals (1)

Allied Health Professionals

Our Allied Health Professionals Programme runs in partnership with Grimsby Hospital, Care Plus Group, Navigo, and Hull University. It offers students the opportunity to engage with professionals to inform on the different careers and pathways this exciting sector offers. Students are given the opportunity to have a 1-1 interview with a professional who will ascertain if they have the right skill set and qualifications. Students who participate fully in the programme will be able to take part in work experience to gain a first-hand insight into the working life of that role.

Debate Club

Our popular Debate Club allows you to take part in spirited debates on a range of topical and important issues. As well as debating opposing teams at Franklin, you'll also get the opportunity to hone your skills by competing against other colleges nationally. A perfect way to nurture key communication and research skills, foster healthy, proactive discussion, and build strong connections. 

In addition to these we offer :

  • 1-1 careers appointments with our team of Level 6 qualified Careers Advisers offering impartial advice and guidance to support you with your next steps
  • Our working lunch programme where our amazing partner employers and professionals discuss what working in their industry is really like and the career pathways that are available
  • Masterclass programme where you will have employers, universities and apprenticeship providers provide more in-depth opportunities to explore specific careers within your lessons, often linked to the curriculum
  • Employer visits, regionally and nationally
  • Work experience across a broad range of industry sectors, to develop your skills and understanding of the careers that are available locally
  • Mentoring opportunities where you will be matched with an employer who will guide and support you on a 1-1 basis, giving you chance to develop your networking skills and confidence and learn from industry professionals
  • Summer internships giving you an opportunity to work on a real project or in a department for 4-6 weeks during the summer, giving you excellent opportunity to impress, enhancing your CV, university application and increasing your chances of employment
  • Extensive enrichment programme that will allow you to take part in a number of different clubs and activities throughout the week to raise aspirations, improve motivation and develop key skills
  • Careers and Progression evening where you will be able to network with over 80 employers, university and apprenticeship providers to explore your options after college
  • Annual STEM conference where you will be able to take part in a number of interactive workshops delivered by a wide range of universities and employers
  • Weekly newsletter packed full of information relating to masterclasses, universities, apprenticeships, work experience and local labour market information
