How we develop your skills

Students at Franklin thrive during their time with us.

Alongside your studies, you'll complete a Personal and Professional Development Programme where you can mix and match over 70 clubs, academies, and societies, all tailored to help you fulfil your aspirations and achieve your goals.

Franklin is highly effective at meeting the local, regional, and national skills agenda

Working with key local employers and stakeholders within the region, we have established our nationally recognised Centre for Professional Development (CfPD), a unique approach to brokering the match between employer needs and the skills of talented local young people.

Within CfPD sits our Franklin Professionals Programmes, centered around the local skills and regional priority sectors.

These include our award-winning Career Academy, offering career pathways for students interested in business & logistics, STEM, health & social care, and law.

How Franklin responds to the local area needs

Franklin works with the local and regional business community to understand and address the needs of the local area with input from the Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland LSIP. This allows us to identify and work towards key areas of skills development requirements, these include:

  • Work Readiness and Essential Skills Action
  • Digitisation and Smarter Working
  • Decarbonisation and Green Skills

Franklin is working in partnership with local providers who are in receipt of the third round of the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) to deliver projects linked to the skills development areas noted above, as referenced in our Accountability Statement.

In response to changes needed in the local area to make education more aligned to the Local Labour Market and the skills required to support local economic growth, a new ten-week initiative has been developed with The Business Hive, Grimsby. This exciting employer-led programme focuses on building our students' character, knowledge, and skills, which develops confidence and communication while raising their aspirations and giving them the best start towards their employment journey.

Recent additions to our Franklin Professional Programme include our Allied Health and Mental Health Academies in partnership with Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital, Care Plus Group, and Navigo. Plus, our Social Work Academy working in partnership with North East Lincs Council and the University of Hull. With a strategic intent to retain talent locally, address key priority sectors and support students who want to secure local employment.

Franklin Sixth Form College continually works with local organisations to ensure we meet the skills needs of employers and stakeholders within the local, regional, and national economy by offering curriculum and wider opportunities outside of the classroom through our extensive Personal and Professional Development Programmes .

Working with students, we nurture their natural ambitions, develop their expanding abilities, and support the growth of vital interpersonal and communication skills.

At the same time, we build aspirations. We’re dedicated to helping students transform their lives, put their career plans into action, and achieve their best possible futures.

Learning at Franklin doesn’t stop when students leave the classroom.
