Franklin College is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Humber LEP Gold Standard for careers information, advice and guidance.  This rigorous award was designed to test the quality and impartiality of the careers information given to young people.  The award recognises the commitment of Franklin College to support the progression of our students which enables them to make informed decisions about their future.  The Gold Standard is jointly funded by Deflog VQ Trust and the Humber LEP.  This award is now known as the Quality in Careers Standard and is nationally recognised.

Some of the strengths highlighted in the assessment report were:

  • Strong links with a wide range of universities and colleges, employers, apprenticeship providers and specialist agencies.
  • Excellent support for the most vulnerable students is provided through the Learning Support Team.
  • Imaginative use of a wide variety of media to share Careers information – Careers Newsletter, use of Facebook and Twitter, displays on electronic screens, display boards in curriculum areas.
  • CEIAG is embedded across all curriculum areas as well as discrete delivery through tutorial.

The Careers & Employability Hub in college is situated in Room 21, an open access area well stocked with the latest information including local labour market information, higher education, gap years, student finance, apprenticeships and general careers resources.  Students can access this area to research their options.  Information is also emailed out to students regularly via a careers newsletter.

Careers Lead

The Careers Adviser in College is Zofia Ciopcinski. Zofia has a Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance and is one of two Careers Leads at College.  Emma Swinburn our Employer Engagement Manager is the other named Careers Lead. Both can be found in room 46, next to the Careers and Employability Hub.

If you are unsure of your next steps or need independent and impartial information advice and guidance about courses, training, employment or apprenticeships please make an appointment with Zofia who is in college every day during term time.  One to one Career Guidance Appointments can be booked via the careers tab on Student FIS. Alternatively, if you have a quick question or need a brief chat about your plans, just drop in to Room 21 over 'common time' and see Zofia.  No need to pre-book! Franklin Professionals Working Lunch

These sessions take place in the Careers & Employability Hub during common time.  This initiative is designed to help our students get a real insight into different professions by giving them the opportunity to meet and talk to a professional in an informal setting.  Visitors arranged this year include an architect, an accountant, a solicitor, dietician, occupational therapist, a representative from GCHQ plus many more.  Employers are really keen to give up their time to talk to our students about their careers, organisation and entry requirements.  These sessions are small so that they are more of a “conversation with” rather than a presentation “to” students.  The fact that they are inclusive and intimate seems to have added to its appeal.  Students can sign up for these sessions by popping into the Progress Coach office or emailing Zofia on and they are advertised in the weekly careers news and around college on the electronic screens.

Employability Passport

In February 2018 Franklin College were delighted to have been awarded the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Employability Passport accreditation, which as part of the Humber LEP’s commitment to improve the level of employability skills throughout the Humber, a validation approach was developed and agreed by the Employment and Skills Board. The passport focuses on the 7 CBI skills and all Franklin College students will have the opportunity to work towards achieving a bronze, silver or gold standard based upon these employability skills. These are delivered via tutorials with Progress Coaches and embedded within the curriculum. For more information please speak to your Progress Coach, Emma or Zofia, in room 46.

Humber Careers Hub

Franklin College has recently been selected as the only sixth form college across the Humber to join the Careers and Enterprise newly appointed Humber Careers Hub, which is a group of schools and colleges working together with universities, training providers, employers and career professionals to improve careers education. These are a central part of the government’s Careers Strategy, published in December 2017 and we are proud to have been selected. The aim is that all the schools and colleges within the hub will have achieved the 8 Gatsby benchmarks by 2020 and will share best practices with other schools, colleges and training providers so that they are working towards achieving these standards.

Take charge of your future by engaging with the Careers Team at Franklin. You will see from our Careers Programme that we have a wealth of opportunities for you to explore your future. Have a look at the useful links at the bottom of this page which will help with your research.

Parents/carers are welcome to join a one to one guidance interview with their son or daughter. These can be made outside of the usual times if necessary. Please email, if you wish to make an appointment with our Level 6 qualified Careers Guidance Officer.
