Preparing for Franklin Programme
We understand that moving from school to college is a big thing but at Franklin, we’re here for you every step of the way!
You'll follow our step-by-step programme which will prepare you for life @ Franklin.
Part 1 - Y11 Taster Day - Monday 8th July
During your taster day, you’ll experience everything from using student transport to trying out your chosen subjects! It’s a fantastic way to explore Franklin and what it’s like to be a student here. Discover our amazing facilities, specialist support and enrichment opportunities as we give you a true flavour of life at Franklin. And don’t worry; we’ll be in touch in plenty of time to make plans. This day is part one of your preparing for Franklin programme. On Taster Day, you'll be assigned Bridging Work to introduce you to the work style and content of your chosen courses to complete before Enrolment.
Enrolment - 22nd to 28th August
You’ll be invited to your enrolment appointment, this appointment will be straight after you receive your GCSE results, and don't forget to bring your completed Bridging Work. It’s at this point we’ll confirm your place and Study Programme. Your Study Programme supports your career aspirations for life after Franklin, so it’s important it’s achievable in line with the grades you receive. If you don’t achieve your predicted grades, don’t panic! We can work with you to offer an alternative programme to support your dream future.
Part 2 - Frank Fest - Friday 30th August
Frank Fest is a great start to the academic year. It’s a friendly, fun and relaxed welcome to Franklin. Join us, and you’ll experience our street food market, live music, and lots of fun activities to get involved in. Plus, you’ll get to meet the whole family of staff and make new friends. There’ll also be opportunities to chill in quiet areas, and you’ll get to say hello to our therapy dogs. There really is something to suit everyone. This day is part 2 of your transition to Franklin.
What better way to introduce yourself to life at Franklin than a day in the sun with free food, music and activities?
Part 3 - Orientation Day - Monday 2nd September
Orientation Day is the final part of your preparing for Franklin programme. This allows you to get to grips with the college before your timetable starts. It’s your last day of introductions before lessons begin, so use this opportunity to ask questions, check out your timetable and explore the campus.
Transport and lunch will be provided on this day.
First Day of Timetabled Lessons - Tuesday 3rd September
After your preparing for Franklin Programme (Taster Day, Frank Fest and Orientation Day), you’ll start your Study Programme.
You’ll follow your individual study timetable; of course, this may be different from your friends. We’ll support you to access your timetable on your Student Portal before your first day so you can plan your route to college and familiarise yourself with how to get around. You might find the FAQs section useful; this will answer any questions about your timetable.
As you prepare for life at Franklin, we know you’ll have lots of questions, so please don’t hesitate to ask. You can contact any staff member you’ve spoken to on your journey to becoming a student using their contact details. You can also get in touch via our reception or Admissions Team.
Don’t forget to follow us on social media (@FranklinGrimsby) where you can drop us a message any time.
