Participating in World Book Night 2023

Franklin Sixth Form College and Franklin College Adult Learning have been selected to participate in World Book Night 2023.

Run by literary charity The Reading Agency, World Book Night brings people together from all backgrounds to inspire others to read more.

Taking place on April 23 – UNESCO International Day of the Book and the date of Shakespeare’s birth and death – the initiative sees publishers donate books each year to be given away for free in libraries, prisons, hospitals, homeless shelters, and colleges across the country.

Franklin was selected alongside a variety of other organisations thanks to our strong track record of supporting people who struggle with reading or don’t read regularly. We accomplish this via our adult learning provision, our work in the community, and the positive pathways we offer local students to achieve their future ambitions.

Jennifer Carter, Head of Department of Adult Learning and Health and Social Care, said: “At Franklin we are proud to support literacy in the community whether adults want to begin their journey on learning to read or write or extend their knowledge and skills through a formal English and literacy qualifications.

“Our subject specialist staff work across the county in community settings such as family hubs, community resource centres and the dedicated adult hub at Franklin College to ensure our learners can learn at a time, place and level suitable for them.”
