If you are looking to apply for a top university or a competitive School Leaver Programme or Sponsored Degree, the universities and employers are looking for motivated students aiming for good grades at A Level. Top Universities advise reading around your subject to help stretch yourself to achieve the best grades you can.
If you are thinking of applying to Oxford or Cambridge you may be interested to go on the Open Day visits we take each year. Last year we took students to Oxford; some students stayed at Exeter College, Oxford and some at Lincoln College. In Cambridge we all stayed at Robinson College. More information will be available about these visits around Easter next year.
It is important that you start to build up experiences this year that can enhance your personal statement when you are beginning the process of applying for university. Taking part in enrichment activities as well as taking your studies that one step further say by reading specialist publications and books can enhance your personal statement.
Attending summer school is a great way to discover what it is like to study at University and what life is like as a student. You will be able to experience mini lectures and taster sessions whilst staying in university accommodation. You are encouraged to apply for Oxbridge and other summer schools as well as Sutton Trust summer schools. Details about these will be given in the Careers News so please look out for these. The Sutton Trust applications usually open in January.
It is important for veterinary, medicine and Oxbridge candidates to be fully prepared to complete their personal statement and apply to university by the start of the Autumn Term of year 13 as the closing date for these applications is 15th October. Veterinary and Medicine courses are particularly competitive and require you to have done extensive relevant work experience at the time of applying next autumn. Work experience is also essential if you are applying for health related courses such as midwifery, nursing, radiography etc.
