Prior to the conversation of the College to an empty MAT and in accordance with the Department of Education’s statutory guidance, Franklin Sixth Form College commissioned an external review of its governance through the Association of Colleges. This took place between October and December 2024.

The reviewer’s overall conclusion on Franklin College’s Board effectiveness was “that there is strong evidence the Board is highly effective and efficient which impacts positively on college strategy, development and outcomes”.
This report backs up the views contained within the College’s last Ofsted report:
Governors are well qualified and experienced in a range of sectors … The Committee structure enables governors to have a comprehensive view of the strengths and areas for improvement at the college. Governors provide supportive challenge to senior leaders to drive forward improvements.
