Engineering Pathways at Franklin
Franklin’s options provide Level 2 – a one year study programme and Level 3 – a two year programme, where you'll gain the academic knowledge, hands-on skills, recognised qualifications, and the confidence you need to set you on the path to a range of incredible apprenticeships, degrees, and careers within the engineering sector.
As a student on our Level 2 pathway, you will study the academic theory with Franklin while developing valuable, practical experience through our leading apprenticeship provider and partner, CATCH. Here you’ll build your engineering skills through a series of exciting hands-on, certificated courses, focused on key areas of engineering.

Level 2 Engineering Pathway
If you are looking to take your first steps into engineering and you need to retake GCSE Maths, English, or Science, this level 2 academic engineering pathway is a perfect starting point. The programme is proudly delivered in conjunction with leading apprenticeship provider CATCH.
Courses
You will study Level 2 applied science course alongside your GCSE courses whilst developing fantastic, practical hands-on experiences with our leading apprenticeship provider and partner, CATCH.
Your personalised study programme will help prepare you for your next steps and is a perfect start whether you’re looking to pursue a future as an engineering apprentice, need a little extra time in the classroom before working in industry or want to combine academic classroom learning with hands-on skills development.
You’ll complete English, Maths and Science (as needed) at Franklin. Attend site visits and undertake engineering training at CATCH, where you’ll complete a range of industry-standard qualifications and gain specialist hands-on experience:
- Pipework/Flange Management, including state-of-the-art simulator training
- Introduction to Welding
- Introduction to Process
- Basic Electrical Awareness
- Basic Mechanical Awareness
Alongside this, you will also complete a specially developed employability programme with Franklin's fantastic Centre for Professional Development and partners, which will set you on the best path to impress and secure placement and employment with leading apprenticeship providers and employers for your future in engineering.

Level 3 Engineering Pathway
Whether you’re looking to begin your college journey at Level 3 for a future in engineering or, looking to progress after completing Franklin’s Level 2 Engineering pathway, your options are many.
