Franklin Student Makes First Team Debut for Sheffield United Women

We’re delighted to share the success of our student, Libby Thompson, who made her debut for Sheffield United Women’s First Team earlier this week.

Libby, who studies Uniform Protective Services (UPS) and Applied Psychology at Franklin, was thrilled to receive the call-up and step out onto the pitch for the Championship Club.

Her success is a huge milestone in her football journey and something we’re all incredibly proud of. Libby has worked closely with her teachers at Franklin to balance her studies with her football commitments, showing outstanding commitment, determination, and drive.

Libby said: “It was a great opportunity to represent the first team in the cup game for the first time. I have played for the U21s for the last two years whilst being a student at Franklin, training up to five times a week. My next goal is to get more appearances for the first team at Sheffield United and try to cement a place as a regular in the team. It was crazy to see all the cameras and media at the game and that was exciting! I would just like to thank the college for supporting my football development.”

Scott Drury, Teacher of Sport and UPS added: “We’re incredibly proud of Libby being selected for Sheffield United. She’s worked so hard both in class and on the pitch, and her dedication has really paid off. We designed a unique timetable to support Libby and her commitment to training and game and to see that pay off for her is fantastic. She thoroughly deserves her place on the team; we couldn’t be prouder.”
