Franklin Shadow Scholarship Students Show Skills at GTFC Training Session
Franklin's first-year Shadow Scholarship goalkeepers Rhys Denford and Ethan Lowe were delighted when they were invited to take part in a training session at Grimsby Town FC's training ground earlier this week. Rhys and Ethan took part in the training with the GTFC youth team, first-team goalkeepers and coach Steve Croudson. The students had a great morning taking part in a shooting practice with first-team players Alex Hunt, Charles Vernam and Donovan Wilson. Rhys said: "To be given an opportunity as big as training with the first team was a dream for any football fan, let alone being welcomed by my childhood idols. All the players and staff were so welcoming, and the training was an amazing experience.".
Ethan added: "It was a great experience. The training was very different, as I am not used to such high-intensity sessions. We've had an invite to go back regularly, and I am looking forward to it as I know I will improve massively from the experience. I enjoyed every minute of the first session and can't wait to do more. Thank you to the coaches for sorting it and the invitation from Steve."
Shadow Scholarship Goalkeeper Coach Robbie Aldrich attended the training with the two young Franklin keepers, he commented: "It was a great experience for our two goalkeepers as well as myself, not only learning from a great coach but having the opportunity to train at a professional club. Both goalkeepers were a credit to Franklin, showing a great attitude during the session when working alongside Grimsby Town's youth team goalkeepers and first-team goalkeepers Harvey Cartwright & Jake Eastwood'. We are looking forward to future opportunities for our goalkeepers to go to Cheapside and work with Steve Croudson. I would like to say thank you to GTFC for this amazing opportunity."
