'Better Than Outstanding!' The Best Provider in the Region for the Second Consecutive Year!

The Government’s performance tables for all schools, academies and colleges who provide 16-19 education show that Franklin Sixth Form College is once again the best provider in the region, for the second year running.

The table demonstrates the progress made by students from when they begin studying at Franklin to when they progress to Higher Education or further training upon the completion of their studies.

Across a range of key measures Franklin beat all other providers of 16-19 year old education including all of those holding historic awards of Outstanding from Ofsted.

Principal, Peter Kennedy said ‘we are so proud of our students and their performance. The fact that yet again in 2019 we top the regional league tables across almost all headline measures is testament to hard work, great staff, and a genuine sixth form college environment.'

He continued, 'I am particularly pleased that Franklin’s performance in both A levels and vocational BTEC and CTEC courses for both progress made and grades achieved top the regional lists.'

'Our next challenge is to top the North of England tables, then the nationals. Our young people in Lincolnshire deserve it!’

Franklin’s Chair of Governors, Alex Baxter, also echoed Mr. Kennedy’s sentiments, ‘we are absolutely delighted by these results. We are here to serve our community and this is clearly reflected by the exceptional outcomes achieved by our students with positive destinations for all.’

The College will be celebrating its 30th Birthday later this year, and the staff are delighted to view the College’s pole position in the regional league tables as an early birthday present.

‘It is not a time for complacency though’ stressed Mr. Kennedy. ‘Our students and our community need us to continue improving, to continue to be the best and better, to continue to go beyond outstanding performance. This is our mission – to change young people’s lives.’

That mission begins with Franklin's 'More Than a Classroom' philosophy. This aims to provide students with opportunities and experiences they can take forward with them on the road to future success.

Franklin Sixth Form College is built upon the strong foundations of this flexible, inclusive approach. The College offers a broad enrichment programme to all of its students with an emphasis placed on providing them with extra-curricular activities that serve to complement their studies.

‘Franklin College believes it is key that our students grow not just academically but as people who can think independently, creatively and also critically,’ stated Mr. Kennedy.

In recent weeks students have taken advantage of these endless opportunities with students taking trips to different parts of the world where they explored, for example, the history of Athens and the Jewish culture within Poland.

Students have also worked with a variety of industry professionals in areas in which they see their future whilst others have taken political trips to the Houses of Parliament and others have competed in Mock Trial Debates at Leeds Magistrates Court.

The college is also home to North Lincolnshire’s ‘Centre for Professional Development’ which, in partnership with John Leggott College in Scunthorpe, establishes and promotes deep working links with our local and regional stakeholders and businesses.

Students are able to benefit from this by working productively with Franklin’s partners as part of the ‘Franklin Professionals’ programme which includes a range of career academies designed to support and mentor students throughout their studies.

Mr. Kennedy stated, 'the opportunities continuously made available to students are there to accommodate everyone. Whether you are looking to progress onto University, an apprenticeship, further training or directly into employment we will support that.'
