FAQs - Frequently asked questions

I have additional support needs; will Franklin College be able to help me?

Yes. At Franklin we have experience in supporting students with a wide range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties. College staff receive specialist training in this area and we will do our best to meet individual needs. All Franklin students are eligible to receive extra support from the Learning Skills Team. Support can include anything, from help with one off study problems to one on one support sessions and workshops in spelling and punctuation. Whatever your needs, we will support you through your studies to ensure that you achieve your full potential at Franklin.

How do I know which courses I should take?

Start by looking at the level you should be applying for (see pages 14-17 for an explanation of these). From here you can see which courses are available to you and what will fit well with your career aims.

Will I be given any help in choosing my programme?

Yes. If you tell us what you are aiming for, we will help you from the very start to choose subjects and experiences that will strengthen your application and ensure your very best chance of success. Advice from the Admissions Team, teachers, progress coaches and our career advisors will ensure that you get the most out of what Franklin College can offer you.

What if my GCSE results are not what I was expecting?

Here at Franklin College, we offer a telephone advice service on 01472 875 005. You can telephone us if your results are not what you expected them to be. If you have already been offered a place at Franklin then it will still be open to you. It may be that you need to spend an extra year at college to improve your grades before moving on to a Level 3 programme, many students take this route and still achieve the goals that they set for themselves.

If I still have some questions, who do I speak to?

You can email any questions to admissions@franklin.ac.uk or telephone 01472 875 004 and speak to a member of the Admissions Team.

When do I apply?

Now! The sooner you apply the sooner we can process your application and arrange an interview with you. You will find an application form in this course guide or you can apply online at: www.franklin.ac.uk or via Lincs2 (North East Lincolnshire students).

Will there be someone to help me if I have a problem at college?

Yes. Individual and small group tutorials are an essential part of your College programme. During that time, you will be able to approach your progress coach with any problem and be confident that it will be dealt with sensitively. The college has a student counselling service, which provides access to one-to-one counselling where required.
