Franklin's Oral History Project benefiting students

We were lucky to have Jacky Aisthorpe from Cranwell Court care home visit college today to meet with students about Franklin’s  ‘Oral History Project’ and to discuss volunteering and work experience opportunities.

History students Hollie Frampton, Jessica Baxter, Brooke Rimmer, Holly Coles, Ellie Wright, Sara Crow, Lauren Cooke and Jasmine Tasker discussed the prospect of working with the residents of nearby care homes in order to research local topics such as the evolution of farming in NE Lincs, how famous local businesses have changed throughout the years and how changing tastes in music have impacted on the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area.

Reading about History is one thing, but having the chance to discuss it with those who lived though some of the more exciting periods of the Twentieth Century is really rewarding and worthwhile.

If you’d like to get involved with the ‘Oral History Project’ and have a passion both for History and for volunteering with the elderly as part of community outreach, then please contact Mike Bailey in Room 77 to sign up.
