Franklin students George Cuff, Tom Garland, Tom Near and Jack Herring were provided with a stark reminder of the problem posed by modern slavery on Thursday when they attended the Wilberforce Freedom Summit at The University of Hull.
In the company of esteemed guests such as former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott and Former Attorney General Baroness Scotland, our students were treated to a series of insightful and engaging speeches by local business leaders, campaigners and from the incumbent Home Secretary Amber Rudd.
With an estimated 40 million people still living in slavery worldwide, the experience really brought home to our students how lucky we are to enjoy the freedoms that we take for granted on a daily basis, and how important it is that we continue to stand up for those who do not enjoy such freedoms in the hope that we can build a fairer future for everyone.
