On Wednesday 20th February, Franklin College Football team beat Sandwell College five goals to two, in the last 16 of the AoC ECFA Men’s Knockout Cat 3 Cup.
After a fantastic home performance, coach Sam Eggleston was full of praise for his hardworking team, ' It's a fantastic achievement for the boys, they work hard in training and games and deserve to do well. These next few games will arguably be the biggest games they’ll ever play so hopefully if they continue with their attitude there’s no reason they can’t progress to the final’.
First-team manager, Pete Schofield echoed this sentiment by stating, 'Hard work beats talent, when our talent fails and we are having an off day we pull through by working hard and playing as a team and that must continue if we are to reach the final.'
In a game that saw Franklin take an early three-nil lead, the team played with confidence and consistently dictated play with good-passing and off-ball movement, staying disciplined throughout.
Captain Rob Dawley acknowledged the performance in his post-game interview, 'This match showed how much we are a real team and work for each other, and this allowed us to deliver a positive result.'
