Congratulations to Franklin Maths Challenge Team who achieved Second place in the Senior Team Maths Challenge Regional Finals 2018-19 this week.
On the 14th November 2018, Franklin Maths Challenge Team: Madeline Foster-Smith, Liu Xin, James Parrott and Jamie Grant (Maths and Further Maths students) participated in the Regional Final and achieved a spectacular Second place in the Senior Team Maths Challenge Regional Finals!
Participation in Maths Challenge is an excellent preparation for maths related degree courses. Students need both the ability and determination to pursue knowledge of mathematics. This year’s Regional Final of the UKMT FMSP Senior Team Maths Challenge which took place in Beverley consisted of 11 teams from around Lincolnshire and Yorkshire competing for a place in the National Finals, set to be hosted in February 2019.
The competition consisted of three rounds; a group round, cross number and relay round. The team with the most total points winning the competition. It was an extremely close contest, with only a few points separating the top two teams, and the Franklin College students managed to achieve this fantastic result ahead of many public and grammar schools. All four students confidently led by our first ever female captain Madeline Foster-Smith have performed exceptionally well and have been well rewarded for all the hard work they have done, both in the competition and in preparation beforehand. Two practice sessions every week were attended by many Year 1&2 students however only 4 fastest were selected to represent Franklin. Well done Team!
