On Thursday 22 March we were absolutely delighted to be able to welcome the Medical Mavericks to Franklin College to run a Health Careers workshop as well as a Sports Science workshop.
In the Health Workshop interactive session students were able to get hands on with some of the medical equipment under the supervision of Alexandra and Adam, from the Medical Mavericks team who were great with the students and brought the sessions to life with their expertise.
Some of the equipment they were able to test included the ultrasound machine, an iPhone retina scanner to see the back of their eye, as well as being able to take basic medical observations such as blood pressure, oxygen sats and temperatures. The taking of fake blood from a fake arm proved to be really popular!
In the Sports Science workshop students were put through their paces using the rowing machine reaction tester and the tunnel. Claire who ran the sessions was superb and the students had a fantastic experience, becoming very competitive on who could achieve the best results.
These sessions were invaluable and made learning fun and memorable. The students (and staff) loved it! They were also given a good insight into some truly rewarding careers in both sectors.
