Forrester Boyd with Franklin Sixth Form College to provide local opportunities for the areas young people
Franklin College are proud to have a long established working relationship with a prestigious, well established local Firm. Forrester Boyd continue to offer excellent career opportunities to local students, opportunities that lead into fantastic lifelong careers. Currently over 22 former Franklin students are employed with them and some have developed through the ranks to senior level. Former students have entered the Firm both as graduates and directly from Franklin. Trainees have a full time role within Forrester Boyd as well as fully funded study days. The accountancy qualifications trainees achieve include, AAT, ACA and ACCA.
Forrester Boyd offers many opportunities for young people and at Franklin we aim to continue our successful relationship. Franklin students are encouraged to take part in worthwhile enrichment activities which are not only fun but help the students be competitive in a challenging environment. Franklin have five thriving Career Ready programmes and Forrester Boyd have been involved from the outset with the Business Academy to provide valuable mentorships and summer internships for current students. Students on each of Franklin’s five Career Academies in Business, Law, Science & Engineering, Health & Social Care and Logistics receive a mentor from industry whom they meet regularly helping students understand career options, networking and helping youngsters integrate into the business community. At the end of their first year Franklin students will have the chance to complete an invaluable four-six week work experience with one of Franklin’s business connections ranging from Forrester Boyd, Shoreline, North East Lincolnshire Council, Grimsby Hospital, Philips 66 and the North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group. In addition to these great opportunities Franklin students will have regular skill building sessions in College and take part in visits to places such as St Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital in London and have the chance to listen to industry experts in various master classes.
In order to ensure Franklin College’s students get the best careers advice, guidance and experience possible during their time at college we have asked Chantelle Ellis, Head of HR at Forrester Boyd to become our Enterprise Advisor for the Careers Enterprise Company working closely with our experienced careers staff to develop our careers plan for the college.

Alex Shreeve – Senior Accountant- Aged 26
“I was always better at Maths than English throughout school and college and so I chose to do accounts as one of my A Level subjects which I really enjoyed. Franklin gave me the opportunity to achieve the qualifications I needed and also provided insights into what a career in accounts would involve.
“What I enjoy most about my job now is getting to work in a great team which makes my day to day life very enjoyable. I like being able to get out and help our clients with their tax planning and I’m able to frequently go networking with other companies.
“At Franklin I studied Accounts, Maths and Sport at A Level and achieved an AS Level in Economics. Since working at Forrester Boyd I have studied AAT and ACCA accounts qualifications”.
Amelia Jacklin- Trainee Accountant- Aged 19
“I wanted to go into accounting because I found it interesting in my lessons at Franklin College and it also allowed be to take an apprenticeship route rather than university. I received a lot of help from my accounts teacher with regards to what routes I could go down to achieve my career goal and Franklin put on a large careers event where someone from Forrester Boyd and many other firms came in to talk to students so I could ask lots of questions. Once I had decided on where I wanted to go I got support from college with the recruitment process and interview tips.
“What I particularly enjoy about my job is working with my new colleagues and being faced with interesting challenges and following them through to completion on a daily basis.
“During my time at Franklin I studied A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Accounts and Business. I also studied an AAT Level 3 courses while taking my A Levels as enrichment and so are now working towards AAT Level 4”.

“I decided to go into an accounting career as I had always enjoyed maths at school and it was a subject I had done well in, so thought accountancy would put that to good use.
“At Franklin I studied A Levels in Maths, English language, German and Government and Politics. I was actually planning on going to university to study accountancy, so the college helped me write my personal statement for the application. I was then able to translate some of this into the job application for Forrester Boyd once I changed direction. I had some great tutors that I was able to go to for advice and job interview tips.
“In my current role I really like going out and meeting with clients to see how their business works and how we can support them to be successful.
“While working at Forrester Boyd I have been able to study AAT and then ACA qualifications”.
Phoebe Cranmer – Trainee Accountant- 20
“I decided to go into accounting because I have always enjoyed maths and had the opportunity to complete my work experience at an accountants. I then became more interested as I studied A Level Accounting and realised it would be a good career for me.
“At Franklin I studied A Level Accounting, Business Studies and English Language. My Accounting tutor at Franklin was a former accountant, he helped me understand more about the industry and the options available to me. Franklin provided lots of chances to learn about apprenticeships and all the opportunities available to me.
“I particularly like that accounting involves problem solving and I get to interact with clients and travel.
“I am now AAT qualified and will be starting studying with ACA in January to become a chartered accountant”.
