Career Academy students meet their mentors

On Wednesday 10th January, 1st Year Career Academy students and their mentors got the chance to take part in an ice-breaker session.

This was an interactive session where students got the chance to meet their new mentors and also got the opportunity to network with other mentors from different industries. The session gave students and mentors a chance to have their first meeting and get to know each other, breaking the ice with an interactive “balloon tower” game in which teams had a set amount of time to  build the tallest, yet most cost effective balloon tower.

A mentor training session was delivered by John Borland from Fluent Coaching, who specialise in training within education. John briefed the mentors on what mentoring is, the mentor relationship, expectations and boundaries and listening techniques plus much more.  Feedback from the session has been fabulous, with many learning so much more than they ever thought possible.
