Career Academy Capital Experience 2016

On Wednesday 7th December, the Franklin College Career Academy students headed to London for the annual Career Ready Capital Experience.

They were given the opportunity to sightsee around London at iconic places such as Buckingham Palace, Downing Street, St Paul’s Cathedral, Covent Garden and more.

On Thursday, the students were given the opportunity to attend a national Career Ready Masterclass for Effective Networking and Communication.

Each year, Career Ready UK organise the biggest employer-led careers event of its kind. The event gives over 1,300 students from hundreds of schools and colleges the opportunity to tour company facilities and to meet with employers to hear about various career pathways within the industries.

Action Jackson, motivational speaker, kicked proceedings off with motivational talks, songs (I’m Career Ready, you’re Career Ready, we’re Career Ready, let’s go!) and interactive activities.

The students then travelled to different locations around London with their academies to have a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how the different locations operate. The Health Academy were given the chance to visit St Bart’s Hospital, Law visited Clifford Chance, Business visited Santander, STEM visited Costain Joint Venture and Logistics visited Sainsbury’s Depot.

While at the different locations, the students were given the opportunity to network with other Career Ready students from nationwide and also with professional businesses by creating their own elevator pitch. This meant that they had to go around the room introducing themselves to employees and other students and trying to pitch themselves and their skills.
